ALOIN/BARBALOIN

"A resin-free, water soluble extract from Aloe. Lemon yellow to dark yellow. Tastes intensely bitter, Darkens in air and light. Cathartic action is milder than Aloe." The definition is from the U.S.P. (United States Pharmacopia) and is, at this point, a cliché. What the definition does not include, however, is the number of anthraquinones related to aloin in the anthraquinone complex. Barbaloin, capaloin, and socaloin are merely crystalline forms of Aloe Vera that have been regionalized according to the type of Aloe Vera from which they've been extracted.
